I wish you were there to see it when I scored a hat trick on the team that called you a fucking queer
It's a very good day to live in Canada. We knew that the same-sex legislation would pass and that there was nothing the Conservatives could do to stop it, but still I am very, very relieved and happy. Need another reason to be relieved and happy? That homophobic asswipe Stephen Harper will never be Prime Minister of Canada now, not after his latest asinine outburst, claiming that because Bloc Quebecois MPs are separatists, their vote on the gay marriage bill is "not legitmate", as if members of federal parliament who happen to be separatists cannot represent their voters on a federal level. Keep digging your own hole, baby, because I can't wait to see you fall into it.
Because I feel that by writing about my hairstyle the other day I pretty much tripped over a boring blogger stereotype and fell on my face, revealing myself as nothing but a self-absorbed wanker,
[the crowd, who of course knew this already, titters meanly into their hands]
I'm going to keep this post all about other people, and fill it with gratuitous links. So I'd like to say thanks, Sarah Rene, for letting me know that Rick Mercer has started a weblog. This is highly exciting for someone who doesn't have a television set; now I can get my Rick Mercer straight up, rather than simply having everything funny he said repeated to me by Pete or his kids. It's just one more tin can phone I can cling to whose string leads home.
qpaukl and tamara have started a website to showcase their work; because this isn't supposed to be about me I won't send you to the tattoo gallery today. Go check out tamara's fashion designs instead.
**Update: qpaukl has also started a blog! The sickness spreads. Good thing cyberspace is infinite, unlike the universe.
My good friend Krista at Pixiefashions has also started a blog, which you can find here. Not much to see there yet, but there's monkeys! So you know it's gotta be good.
Here's my new roommate Jenny's blog: Knittin' Sticks. Lucky girl's bouncing around all by herself for the summer in New York City.
And while we're at it, today's episode title was brought to you by the Quintessential Canadian Band, the Rheostatics. This is a band I'll be listening to more than ever in my feeble attempt to retain my Canadian accent while living in Georgia. Go check out the Rheostatics. They play hockey, and you can still see them live in small venues for ten bucks. Bam, bam, digga digga dam.
Okay. Got to go wash some chemicals off my head, so that in the morning it can be all about me again when I show you a big surprise. I think I may have totally cocked up with the hair alterations, and I wish I had someone who knows what they're doing, like Mandy or Jacey, to help me. Ah well. It grows back.

Sometimes I want to be Canadian. In Sweden, we have a sort of second-class marriage for same sex couples. And from July 1 lesbian couples will be allowed assisted conception in hospitals, but it won't really be possible to do it for another six months because the donor has to approve that a woman and not "just" another man becomes the parent of his biological children. Does Canada have adoption for same-sex couples? We only got it two years ago.

Yes, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms prohibits discrimination based on, among other things, sexual orientation, and in 1990 the definition of spouse was changed to include same-sex partners (this in response to a legal challenge from a same-sex couple who had been barred from making a joint application to adopt a child). So same-sex couples have been able to adopt and to collect spousal benefits for some time; the right to a legal marriage rather than a lesser "civil union" was the last hurdle.
Personally I am against marriage altogether, will never marry and don't see why anyone else would want to. But the option has to be there for everyone, or for no-one.
I don't know what rights sperm donors have over their biological offspring here in Canada, but that sounds crazy to me. A donor can't dictate that his sperm be given only to Presbyterians, or Liberal Party supporters, so why should he have any say over how many family members the child will have and what sex they are?

Three Cheers for Canada. Maybe some day we'll wake up down here (or heyah - say it).
Can't wait to see the unveiling. I have no problem with the blog being about you - it's supposed to be.

Hooray for Canada! I hope one day the US can get their heads out of their asses.
I am so excited about you coming down here!!

Hurray, we were pretty excited to read that this morning and now even more excited to be getting back to Canada. Hey did I tell I got stuck waiting for my plane to NL with Rick Mercer and his partner. I was pretty excited but was too much of a spaz to go and talk to him. Instead I followed him around trying to be sneaky. Good luck with the hair coloring, I need to do mine tomorrow.

Can't wait to see the hair!

You know what I love the MOST about Stephen Harper? He had no problem with the BQ's legitimacy when he needed them in his failed attempt to bring down the goverment last month. Poor Stevie. He must be feeling very frustrated today.

When I heard about Canada's new law I was ecstatic! See, Canada GETS it. Why can't the U.S?
Hey, finally submitted my pattern to knitty, but I'm afraid my bio is way totally lame, not to mention the sucky self-portrait. But there's not help that. I think the problem is with the subject matter. Wish me luck.

jodi,
if you like rick mercer, you may be interested in jon stewart (I would almost equate him as his american counterpart). You can view clips from his news show online. I have linked it on my site.
p.s. harper is a wiener.
p.p.s. do you want some aussie wool for knitting? (I need your address)

another post script;
I have no idea what is good and what is crap wool.

Your entry is great - this is definitely going to be a Canada day to celebrate. :) (..even if I only celebrate by going to the liquor store and buying something and drinking it at home alone while I'm editing - how depressing.) I, in turn, must also thank you for the news of Rick Mercer's blog! And finally, re, me knowing what I'm doing with my hair, I laugh in your general direction. I just fuck around with it enough thatsometimes it works... ;)

omg, I made it into Jodi Green's Blog! even if it's just for my knowledge of how to put chemicals on your head cheaply and with the least amount of pain. As for ME knowiing what to do with hair, i also laugh in your general direction (North, i believe), my hair is the way it is because I've no idea what to do with hair.
also, and I'm sure more importantly, YAY CANADA. This (america) country is so fucked up that many of the queers I know (I belong to a queer theater troupe) are in favor of not attaining equal rights/marraige rights. There's a long bit of logic that is better suited for a post than a comment, but sometimes it makes sense to me.
