Frustration and close calls

Yesterday was sort of a low day. My afternoon class was the worst class I've attended in a long time. I won't go into too many details about it because I do like the professor and don't really want to complain about my program on the weblog, but everyone is pretty frustrated with what's going on in the class and yesterday was very, very tense. I made a really shitty drawing that was obviously and embarrassingly half-assed (that definitely has to stop). So. Frustrating.

After class I felt like I needed to do something productive in order not to have wasted an entire day, but didn't feel up to doing any studio work. So I stayed up late and pushed through on the Birthday Sweater, and I got it done. I had pretty much committed myself to having it ready for tomorrow (by making a date with the person who is going to model it for me), but had planned to finish it up tonight at knit night with the girls (you know, of course, that the only reason I submitted this design for publication was to give myself a deadline to work towards. And even then, now that the deadline is looming, I still had to step the deadline up a bit by arranging a photo shoot. Because that is the only way I can get anything done). And here's how much yarn is left:

Talk about tense. I was sweating all over by the end, not sure if I was going to run out. I even had to unravel my swatch, that's how close I was. I'm wearing the last bit of the yarn around my wrist today, just to remind myself of how stupid-lucky I am.

Whew! Hopefully today will get better. Stupid-lucky is still better than Stupid-unlucky. That's usually me lately.

Can't wait to see the sweater.

Whew! That's margins for you! And you know what? I wore a little string of kureyon around my ankle for a week after having finished that blanket of mine - just to show the world how I'm a knitter now... ;)

Are you not allowed to post pictures since it's going to be published? :)

I know the feeling. I have knit a couple of projects recently where I had a yard or two of yarn leftover. It's definitely a loaves and fishes moment but it's so sweet when it works out in your favor!

Sometimes, things just work out. Revel in the serendipity of the moment!

Ah, the power of procrastination! Deadlines are my biggest (and possibly only) motivator in my work.

I'm currently working on something for my sister that may well have the same issue. Let's hope it turns out as well for me as it did for you.

Here's hoping that the frustration part of your class improves drastically, too.

I am writing to ask a question concerning "Hot Tamale", well sort of concerning it. I want to knit a cool poncho for my daughter in law {dil}who collects them. Someone suggested that I adapt your "Hot Tamale" design for one. The more I think about it, the more I think that not only will dil realy like it, it will be fun and interesting for me to make.

Now I know full well that I could do this for my own personal use and not realy need your permission. But I am not the sort to do such. And since both my son and dil are artists [both are students at Memphis Collage of Fine Arts], they are not the type to wear such an item if permission hadn't been given. So I am asking for your permission to adapt the design of "Hot Tamale" into a poncho.

If you have any special instructions as to what you do and do not want to see done, any shaping requirements, anything at all please let me know.
I'll be more than happy to meet all reasonable requirements/restrictions that you impose. I can send you pictures of the item as it is knitted, and when it's completed (provided you say yes to this). Or I can simply post them on my blog for you to keep an eye on.

In any event, I am planning on making myself the skirt. But am planning on doing it in purples and reds....my special twist on "Red Hat Society" type of outfit! But this will have to wait untill after all of my gifty knitting is done and the hollidays are long over.

Thanks for your consideration.
