He's got a chain of flowers, and sows a bird in her knickers
I'm not going to get all embarrassingly saccharine today, because that's just so last year. Today the person I love more than anything is 40 years old. I'll save the truly sentimental dreck for when he turns 80, because by then I'll be so old that sentimentality will be forgivable and perhaps even expected, and he'll be too demented to read it and get embarrassed by it anyway.
The birthday party? One word sums it up:
*edited to clarify: the etch-a-sketch drawing was done by our brother in law Rod Keith, not by me. I'm not nearly so amazingly talented; I can draw stairs and that's about it.

Being sweet on your sweetie is more than acceptable. It's laudable. :) Happy birthday!

Happy Birthday to a man who gives wonderful hugs, and knows how to throw a great party. We had a blast - thank you again for inviting us - and got back across the border with no problems at all. See you both again soon.

Wow. I am in awe of your mad Etch-A-Sketch skills. I loved last year's birthday entry, so sad that he was embarrassed.

Um... also? I like the Sugarcubes quote. That song wins the "most unsettling" prize.

Aw. Sweet boy on the Etch-A-Sketch. Glad the party was fun times!

Yeah, "life's too good"!
So I went back and read the post from last year (huh...I commented on it at the time, but forgot!), and I think it's wunnnnderful that you two have such a great relationship. Happy 40th, Peter, from someone you've never met. Trust me...life only gets better from here!

Happy Birthday Peter!!
I'm sorry Dru & I couldn't make the party, but I know you have a blast. I'm so glad you two are doing so well, adversities of distance and all -- You're quite cute together! Hopefully we'll get to visit with you guys before Pete turns 41...

HappyBirthday to YourBeloved (and Yay Sugarcubes!). Neeeeat etch-a-sketch. I'm in the stair category, too...lucky for me the practice is like buddhist mandala sand paintings.

Happy Birthday to Peter!
That is, by far, the best Etch-a- Sketch drawing that I have ever seen.

Happy Day Peter, and many more!
Is it me, or does the etch-a-sketch guy look impressively like Mick Jagger?

Yep, I think Peter deserves a very happy birthday merely because he makes you happy. And I love to see people who appreciate one another get all sappy. Gives me hope that real love exists between consenting adults.
The etch-a-sketch thing is farking amazing! Now how do you freeze it like that so it never goes away? I'd be the first to knock it over and screw the whole thing up.

well thanks, everybody.
it's funny how many people have told me 40 is not too bad. so far it hasn't been all that different from 39, except maybe a little hung-over.
jodi, have i ever told you what that song means to me? is it a coincidence that it means something to you too, or was it just that there aren't any weird-ass lyrics in the beatles song of the same name?

when i was in grade 2 i got an etch-a-sketch and within a day my mum's partner, who's an artist, had created this lovely and intricate drawing of a elf riding a snail across lake ontario from the toronto islands to the city (CN tower and all - pre-sky dome)... and the etch-a-sketch was mounted like a picture in a frame, never to be used again.
sometime last year though, my mum had a party and it seems some friend's kid found the damned thing and shook it. when i discovered it on a later visit to my parents' house i was heart broken.

Oh, I really hope my etch-a-sketch is still in my parents' basement... so inspiring!

Happy Belated Birthday, Peter. Sentimental dreck is perfectly acceptable...once in a while. Hee.
