do it for science

Scott Eric Kaufman is measuring the speed of meme; the results will be presented in a panel discussion at the Modern Language Association. Help him out by first reading this post, then linking to it in your own blog and pinging Technorati so that he can track it. You know you want to. All the cool kids are doing it, and it won't give you lung cancer or get you knocked up.

I saw this yesterday, I think on Pharyngula. Is this a valid test? Wouldn't the speed of a meme be to some extent tied to how intrinsically interesting it is? This one, I imagine, will spread fairly quickly because a lot of bloggers are likely interested (and may even feel they have a stake) in the results. But if Jodi Green started a "What's the stupidest thing you've ever done with a knitting needle" meme, I bet it would travel neither so quickly, nor so widely.

By the way, Jodi Green, what IS the stupidest thing you've ever done with a knitting needle?

Ha! knocked up!
Quite a brilliant study - the meme is viral!
Thanks for the link, Jodi!
