I just have to make fun of Athenians one more time and then I promise I'll try to stop.

On the front of the Red & Black today:

terrifying!

It's positively terrifying, isn't it?

Weather has become a big news item in the last decade. I blame the Weather Channel, desktop radar, etc. for starting the freak out. The local news was interviewing the snowplow guys for a %60 of rain and flurries. This is in southern PA where it certainly snows!

Ice storms here are much worse then the snow. The weight breaks power lines, snaps ankles, etc. What drives me nuts uis that because of the regular weather freak out, no one takles the news seriously when the weather is *really* bad.

ROFTL! Sad thing is, while Connecticut doesn't shut down unless there are serious amounts of snow/ice, it's amazing how people flip out in terms of "supplies" when there is even the threat of snow. People will CLEAR OUT the shelves of stuff for fear of being snowed in for A DAY. It's Connecticut, not Antarctica, lol...

I know I'm just a soft Californian, but I'm beginning to think I should start making fun of Georgians as well!

(There's ice in that photo?)

*snort* It seems you don't even have to try to make fun of Athenians.. they're doing it to themselves.

HAHAHA! That's hilarious . . . and makes us Texans look just a *smidge* less alarmist about Winter Weather. BTW, is that your bike?

I think it NOT FAIR to use the Red and Black as representative of most Athenians...

I just sent you some pictures...you'll then understand why I laughed my arse off at this post.

I grew up in a place where I had to walk to the school bus through knee deep snow drifts at times (uphill. both ways. hahaha). Now I live in an area that has no real winter, with the occasional odd "wintry mix" that people flip out over. At least I thought they were flipping out. Now that I see how the folks in your neck of the woods are overreatcing, I'm gonna have to cut my locals some slack!

What a bunch of wimps. That said, Boston totally freaks out if there's more than 3 inches. Since there's been no snow this winter, it's even worse. Even the prospect of snow sends everyone into a tizzy of salt and grocery buying.

"Terrifying"? Seriously?

Posted by: jenn at February 2, 2007 03:06 PM

you shouldn't blame all americans, alaska has nasty weather all the time and I still have to go to work everyday. then again maybe we're not really all that american.......

Ohmygod I'm TERRIFIED. [quivering with fear]

Posted by: alison at February 3, 2007 12:23 PM

okay. that's funny. i love the American South.

Um, surely I would think that the headline was written in a kind of smug jest? I dunno, though.
Maybe that's giving too much credit to the ole R&B.

Heh. That's pretty awesome. Texans are the same way (and I can say that because I'm from the northeast) - they don't know from winter weather.

What whimps! It's 25 below zero up here this week!

Posted by: Miss Twiss at February 7, 2007 05:49 PM

I agree with Elizabeth! I still had to trudge up a huge hill to class when the wind chill was -35
