slowly, and with coffee, we will take over the world

Tim Hortons in Bowling Green, Ohio. One more step in the master plan.
Drive-by blogging from the Best Western in Sweetwater, Tennesee, on our way back to Athens. Today we're going to Rock City. All those barns wouldn't steer us wrong, right?

slackass
I'm having a lot of trouble with motivation of late. I can't commit to any projects, can't get anything done, at times can't even lift myself from my seat to do something that I know needs doing, that I very much want to do, even. I haven't been drawing in my sketchbook, haven't touched the printing I brought home with me (should have known), have been staring at the same pile of half-sewn skirts for a week now. And that's just my school work, never mind the things I wanted to accomplish around the house this month. And now I'm facing the prospect of leaving those projects untouched for another year while I go back to school. Gah. And my website is terribly out of date, and I've got weeks' worth of photos to share, and recipes to post, and. . . and. . . I dreamed the other night that I hadn't blogged in so long that I was no longer the number one Jodi Green in a Google search, AND I was reading about it in the New York Times. Pathetic.
We're having a little party this Friday before leaving for Athens, and I've been too sidelined by migraines the past two days to do any cleaning, menu planning, or finding places to put all of the boxes of stuff that fill the living room. Now that there are only a few days left, I have to lift my sorry carcass from my fainting sofa and get down to work (because everybody knows that having a party is just an excuse to get the house clean). Here are the things I need to accomplish today:
-wash out roll-top desk and new bookshelf
-bring boxes of glasses and china up from basement, unpack, wash and put in bookshelf
-move the echinacea to the other side of the garden (I can already see this one getting shunted off to tomorrow)
-sew zippers into three skirts
-move drawing boards to basement
-pack school stuff
Am I setting myself up for failure? Wouldn't be the first time. The dishes part and packing the school stuff are both pretty big jobs, but I'll attack them in dribs and drabs throughout the day (which is probably a hint as to why it's so hard for me to finish things, eh?).
In lieu of anything more interesting than my self-absorbed whine, here's a picture of last night's supper at Terra Cotta, Windsor-Detroit's best pizza:

kitty love
While Mikell's still in hospital and while we take care of moving her from house to apartment, Peter and I have brought her kitty back to our place to be babysat. It's nice to have a cat in the house again, as we've decided to put off inviting new kitties into our home and our lives until I'm back from school for good next year. Strange, though, to look over and see miss Cleo curled up snoozing in Benny's favourite sleeping spot.

one step closer to ugly bag lady
We're taking a weekend off to take the train up to Toronto, visit friends and buy some kozo at the Japanese Paper Place warehouse. I hate walking around crowded places with my ratty yellow purse gaping open with the digital camera coyly hanging out waiting to get stolen (and also the many knitting needle holes in the front of the bag are starting to stretch and fray), so I made myself a new satchel for the trip. Check out the awesomeness but please ignore the ugliness of the fabrics; it's canvas I hadn't yet finished printing on, all part of what I've started referring to as my "clown project", in which I will spend my final year of grad school wearing clothes made from fabrics I've printed and drawn on, and in which I expect to look if not like a clown then like someone who gets dressed (and goes clothes shopping) in the dark. Also I'm going to keep drawing on the bag as I use it.
Anyway.
Awesome new satchel!
Under the front flap there's a pocket, and a scary head. Some of you may recognize her.
Inside, a big pocket, a loop to attach my keys to, and a cell phone pocket. This pocket is almost too small for my phone, which only confirms my suspicion that cell phones are evil and also useless. That's okay, because the cell is my Athens phone and as soon as I'm finished grad school I'll get rid of it, and then I can use this little pocket to hold tampons, yo. And microfilms.

i love you golden blue
Photo swiped from Peter.
Specs: Stefanie Japel's "cardigan with leaf ties" from Fitted Knits. I made the sleeves a little shorter than called for because I didn't like the unsightly flare of the hem when I bent my arms. I also eliminated the leaves from the ties and used 4 stitches instead of 5 for the i-cord.
The sweater used exactly three 200-yard skeins of worsted weight wool from Rabbitworks Fibre Studio, dyed for me by Rabbitch in the best blue ever. It kicks all kinds of ass paired with this dress. Many hapless Windsor carnival-goers were blinded; a cop on a bike was so blinded he nearly ran into me.
