new camera

Since fixing the dead camera proved as costly as buying a new one (oh, how prices have dropped!), we bought me a Canon PowerShot A560 yesterday. Although I haven't yet done much more than figure out the bare minimum I need to shoot my daily wardrobe images, I'm quite happy with it so far. Here's a test shot from last night, of some lovely handspun I recently finished:

testing out the new camera

I spun up all eight ounces of this, into what I thought at the time was a pretty haphazard thick-and-thin single, on Mouse's Louet which she kindly brought over for me to play with last week. Once I had it all plied up on the drop spindle later, there was considerably less thin than thick, but I'm happy with it all the same. I think this is going to be a little bolero or shrug to wear over my printed dresses now that the hundred-degree days are behind us (I hope for good). The fibre is blue-faced leicester in the colourway "mango", from Maggie's new online shop; I chose the colourway to give myself a little bit of fall palette to carry around with me in this land of endless summer.

It makes sense that if you somewhat randomly spin thick bits followed by thin bits, after plying you'd end up with a Bell-like curve of mostly medium bits with a few thick and thin outlier sections.

I have an A530 and I adore it, it takes great photos even when you can't see what's on the screen, I've had some great shots where the sun is making the screen impossible to see so I just point and shoot! I've never read the book more than how to use it basically, there's a ton of settings I've never tried and probably never will! Enjoy using it!

You spun that?!?!?! It's gorgeous goddammit!

It's beautiful! Can't wait to see it knit up.

It's so exciting for me to see handspun and knit project from the fibre I've dyed.

So you spun it on a wheel and plied it on a spindle? Did you enjoy that? I still enjoy using a spindle for spinning singles, but not at all for plying.

I have a much earlier version of that camera (A75) and I've been very happy with it. Enjoy!

This is beautiful! It all seems pretty even. How are you feeling about the Louet? I still have things to send you, I just haven't headed over to the dread post office of late.....

You can't go wrong with a Canon - and that's some gorgeous yarn you've got there!!

Absolutely exquisite yarn! I am in awe that you spun it yourself.
I love my Cannon Rebel! Awesome photos emerge from it!

i have a canon a640 and love it. i've had many of the past A series ones too and love them. one though decided not to retract the lens, but turek camera sent it off and was covered under warranty. they're my favorite cameras. i've had digital slr's like the canon 10d and nikon d70, but still love these A series cameras.

this is darren by the way. i was at artcite during the 24 hour part and was there with leesa in the morning when you stopped by to help kelly. i really love your photos ! and your fashion sense.

I still can't believe you spun up so much wool at one sitting.. and I was there to watch it. I love the colors, it will make a pretty scarf! I'm glad that you were able to narrow down your choice of wheels by messing about with mine as well. My next wheel will definitely be a dt instead of a single because of my back problems.
