I used to be a Guinness drinker.
Not anymore.
Just to be clear, I don't really have a problem with what the people in this ad are doing. I do have a problem with one of those people being placed in a position of inferiority to the others, a position worthy of disrespect and ownership, and that person being the one person in the ad who represents me. If the makers of what for a long time has been my favourite beer hate me this much, well, there are other beers.
*edit: okay, it's not a real ad. Back to drinking Guinness and participating in threesomes with abandon. Whew!

Sam Adams has many, many tasty brews, sistah. We should explore them next week, don't you think?

My first reaction was anger. I couldn't believe guiness would release an ad this disrespectful. I was then about to join you in the boycot, and post about it on my blog. I was reading through the comments on the youtube site and it turns out it was made by the poster, and isn't a real guinness ad.
Phew. It would have been a shame to stop drinking my favourite beer, which is exactly what I would have done had it been an actual advertisement.

I have to admit...This does stray a bit from: "Guinness is Good for You". Big question: Is it an official Guinness advertisement? I mean...we're talking about YOUTUBE. On the other hand, ownership changed hands recently and as we all know...Every company is a reflection of it's management. I'd hate to see flocks of Guinness supporters stray from such a fine product. And rightfully so. I cannot say that I have the same fortitude as yourself because I do like, very much, what I have always considered good for me. You go girl!

wow, i was really disturbed by that too. when i looked further at the youtube comments on the link, it looks like this might be a spoof that the company has nothing to do with. have no idea how true that is, but i can only hope we'd have heard a greater level of outrage about it if it were company-created and distributed.

I agree with you that the ad is incredibly offensive, and for all the same reasons. I'm not sure that it's an ad that was actually made by Guiness. It would probably be worth researching to make sure it's not just a fan's ad.

This is actually a homemade video (admitted in no uncertain terms by the poster at the YouTube site).

Blerg. I especially love the ambiguity of "one" in "share one with a friend." Because women are things, not people. Niiiice.

* sputter * Wha? Is this being aired in Canada? Simply disgusting and disappointing.

I'm totally speechless.

WTF????
That makes me so mad.

They're fired... At least I'm allergic to beer, they won't ever be taking my money to produce that jive.

The ad isn't real. The one who posted it also created it - it says so in the comments.

Jeezopete.

Wow, that is quite possibly one of the most offensive things I have ever seen.
And I've seen a lot.

Hey Jodi, I agree with your reasons, but I don't think this is a real Guinness ad... The discussion on YouTube seems to indicate that some guy made it for less than $500, and that the Guinness ad reps are in no way associated with it (I'm inclined to believe this, since it really doesn't fit their style over the last several years at all).

Oh, that's awful.

While I agree that this is seriously misogynist ad spot, I don't think it was an actual Guinness ad. Commercial directors make fake ads using real companies all the time. It was never sent to Guinness and Guinness brand is trying to get the ad pulled from YouTube.
I think you're safe to enjoy your Guinness.

Holy CRAP! At first I was thinking, what's wrong with sex? And then...
My eyeballs just fell out of my head. Ugh!
